PM Justin Trudeau and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar meet in Dublin

Date: 4 July, 2017

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar spoke at Dublin Castle tonight, after visiting the Irish Famine Memorial and EPIC Dublin earlier in the day. Ireland Park Foundation’s Chairman and Founder, Mr. Robert G. Kearns, and Executive Director Mr. William Peat, among Irish and Canadian government officials, were there to greet him.

“The Departure” is the reciprocal sculpture series to “The Arrival” sculptures in Ireland Park. These sculptures, created by Irish artist Rowan Gillespie, represent the Irish Famine migrants leaving Dublin to begin a new, and hopefully better life. In Dublin, there are seven bronze sculptures, while in Toronto, there are five. This lesser number reflects the loss of life on the journey to Canada from Ireland and those who died of illness soon after their arrival in Toronto.
